For my places brief, I have chosen to do religion. I will show the diversity of religions in the North West of England.

This year there was another brief with a chance to go to exhibit in Cape Town, South Africa.  The brief for this was to show the diversity of the North West of England. However, there were only a limited amount of places to go to Cape Town. To be selected, we had to do a presentation. Here are the slides from my presentation:

I wrote why I wante to be part of the brief.

I showed research of South Africa.

I showed research of Cape Town.

I wrote about my previous volunteering trip to South Africa.

I showed some of my photos from South Africa.

I showed some other work I had done as part of my course.

I wrote about my qualities and why I would be good for the trip.

I wrote about how I would approach the brief.

I showed some rural landscapes I have taken in the North West of England.

I showed some photos I have taken of Manchester City. I did this to show the diversity of the North West of England architechturally.

I showed this photo I have taken of China Town in Manchester. I talked about how I wanted to show the diversity of culture and religion in the North West of England.

This trip to Cape Town is also connected with the Kay Mason Foundation, which provides poorer children in South Africa with an education that they wouldn't normally receive.

This work is to positively portray the North West of England. I mentioned to show religion for the brief in my presentation as not many people realise how many religions are in the North West and it is also different in South Africa.

Whist I volunteered in South Africa, I got to visit a Zulu church in the poor township.

The idea of religion was chosen as this would also work with the rest of the group. As other people in the group were doing the weather of the North West, the people and working landscapes.

For my project I have photographed Blackburn Cathedral, Liverpool Anglican Church, Liverpool Synagogue, Saint Walburge Church in Preston, Churches in Chorley and Leyland, Mormon Temple and a Mosque and a Hindu Temple in Preston. I feel this is a variety of religions and places in the North West of England.

Here is a contact sheet of the photographs I have taken:

As a group we had regular meetings where we developed our photos and ideas. As we viewed my photos, it was agreed that my photos would look best in a grid. I did several grids of images together as groups. We then wittled these down to three grids.
For the final images for this brief, I have created three grids of photos. The photos together in a grid will mean that I can show the diversity of religion in the North West. One grid is of the details of the places of worship, one is of the tops of the places of worship and the other is a collection of the best images. Here are the three final images:
